More than a scan and a PDF
Plenty of scan-only providers email you a report and leave the rest to you. With us, a GP is involved before the scan and after it.
- Checked before you book. A GP talks through your symptoms first. If an X-ray, ultrasound or blood test would answer the question better, we say so.
- Read by a specialist. A consultant radiologist reports every scan, usually within 48 hours.
- Explained, not just sent. Your GP calls to go through the report, so you are not left guessing at medical terms.
- Sorted afterwards. Physiotherapy, a specialist opinion or an NHS referral, depending on what the scan shows.
CT, ultrasound and DEXA
MRI isn't always the best test. Your GP can arrange CT, ultrasound or DEXA instead, with the same specialist reporting and GP follow-up.

CT scan
Low-dose lung CT, heart calcium scoring and detailed chest, abdomen and bone scans.

Questions people ask
Do I need a referral from my own GP?
No. You book a private GP consultation with us by phone or video, and our GP assesses you and refers you for the scan.
How much is a private MRI in Warrington?
A single-area MRI starts from £425 at a fixed price. Tell us the area and we'll confirm the cost before you book.
How soon could I have my scan?
Usually within days of your GP consultation. The consultant report is typically ready within 48 hours of the scan.
Which scanner will I go to?
You choose. Most Warrington patients go to our partner centre in Newton-le-Willows, about 5 miles away. Liverpool and Salford also offer CT and ultrasound, and Preston is available too. The address and directions come with your booking, or you can find your nearest centre.
Do I need to travel for the GP consultation?
No. Your GP consultation is by phone or video, so the only trip you make is for the scan itself.
Is it the same as an NHS scan?
Yes. The same MRI technology, at accredited imaging centres, reported by consultant radiologists, without the wait.
Can I just choose the scan I want?
Your GP will listen to what you want to know and recommend the scan most likely to answer it. If MRI isn't the right test, for example if an X-ray or ultrasound would be better, we will explain why.
Will my health insurance pay?
Some policies cover private scans, but most need pre-authorisation and some require a specialist referral. Check with your insurer before booking and ask us for anything they need.
I'm claustrophobic. Can I still have a scan?
Often, yes. Tell us when you book. Depending on the area scanned you may be able to go in feet first, and the radiographer can talk to you throughout. Read what to expect.
Will my NHS GP know?
Only if you want them to. With your permission we send a summary and the report to your NHS GP.
